NPT threads are typically made at the same time moving the tool in a downward direction. Because these tools are crest cutting, it is not absolutely required to ream the internal minor diameter or mill the external diameter to size. Still, it is extremely recommended to do so because the tools will have a lesser amount material to remove. If the tool is to be used in an upward direction, spiral movement must be used.
